I find that over the years I approach and organize my garden much like I do my art practice. I learn the most and gain the most information from my missteps . I am a notorious note taker , that if left unchecked would have hoards of sketches ,lists, and notes on everything sprawled over every surface of my office and studio. Journals are how I keep both my art ideas and garden plans under control . The garden is my biggest challenge, and often my greatest reward/ or biggest failure . How do you plan your garden? I love to have a mix of pages for notes, sketching out beds as the seasons change , and some photos to remind me of what is coming after all of the hours of preparing the soil, weeding , feeding , tending , and waiting . One of my favorite things is to read inspirational quotes from gardeners that came before me. Especially on those days where the Japanese beetle has decimated a rose bush , or Peter rabbit's clan woke up before me and ate all the sunflower seedlings. I have incorporated all of this into a garden journal for 2022.
