I have always loved packing up little art supplies, and creating little creativity kits, to take with me on road trips. Usually you have to think small, compact , and if flying a good choice are things that are dry and won’t get all over if things get bumped around. If its a car trip there is quite a bit more leeway. This week I went down to visit my daughter at school and packed a few things to create with while she was in classes. I brought my latest 2 cyanotypes and some cold wax so that I could apply a finish to them. And also a travel kit for cyanotypes in case I found a good spot to create some more. I decided that I wanted to add a pop of color to one of the prints and was lucky to find an art store near by the hotel. Oil sticks are not something I would normally pack in my suitcase although I have been tempted :) This week’s Wax on Wednesday was done from the hotel room . It ‘s so fun to adapt to creating with just limited supplies and I feel like sometimes that thinking outside the box excitement gets creativity flowing and rejuvenates inspiration for when you return home to your creative space again ! Having fun on Wax on Wednesdays on YouTube ? Last April with uncertain times, I launched the Patreon channel with the intention of bringing artists mini workshops every week in the form of longer Wax on Wednesdays videos with step by step commentary , Monday Warmup videos , and monthly projects. There are 4 tiers on the channel to choose from and you can move up and down in tiers easily, see all past content for your chosen tier through the beginning of the channel last April, and subscribe and unsubscribe at any time. It is a way of getting a lot of content without the larger investment of a full workshop price. You can check out the channel any time at https://www.patreon.com/sharireplogle Have a wonderful weekend and happy creating ! xo Shari

Happy Wax on Wednesday!
On January 27, we created natural Skelton leaves to use in art. Since then several projects have been created to use with these lovely leaves! Today I am using a cyanotype that I created using these skeleton leaves on very fine Kozo paper and embedding the paper, a fun rice paper, and one of the actual skeleton leave into the encaustic surface. This is possible in part because all of these items are very light weight, absorbent , and therefore will embed easily into the wax. Tip: All patience and let you board cool down in between stages when embedding . A super warm board can lead to the wax smooshing out from under the embedded items and cause problems .
Supplies I used this week:
Each week I list the supplies I used in the video here on the blog for you so that you can see and easily find the items used for that week's technique . If you purchase items from the links provided it sometimes generates a few cents in commission which goes right back in to creating videos for you on the youtube channel. It does not raise the cost for you in any way, and is the same link you would find on a regular amazon prime search . Thank you so much! Also , although the photos here can help you easily find the product . I also recommend that you look at your local art /hobby store to make sure you are getting the lowest price. Sometimes with weekly 40% off coupons basic items can be found at a better price. This week it's project #2 for the fun natural skeleton leaves we created 2 weeks ago. There are so many ways to incorporate these skeleton leaves into encaustic art. No skeleton leaves were harmed in the making of this video :) Creating impressions in the encaustic surface with leaves as in this Wax on Wednesdays video from 2018 :https://youtu.be/PvBtMH4IsHc
can be a lot of fun . The skeleton leaves give a lovely detail that is hard to replicate with a regular leaf .
