Happy Wax on Wednesday to you, and a very Happy Thanksgiving if you are here in the US!
This week I am using some of my cyanotype prints that I enjoy certain areas of to create smaller collage works. We all have those prints that come out having some  exciting parts but fall short of a perfect print. When printmaking, whether it is cyanotype, botanical printing , eco printing , gel printing ,etc . , I always save the ones that don't work out exactly as planned because there is usually areas of the print that are still really interesting . They may just work better cropped down to a smaller scale to focus on the exciting parts.

Happy Wax on Wednesdays !
Happy Wax on Wednesday! I continue to obsess with cyanotypes here and all the magic that can happen with them. Ever have a print that did not come out the way you planned or initially laid it out ? This can happen with gel prints, eco prints, botanical printing , or in the case this week cyanotypes. Sometimes refocusing your focal point will help you to discover details in your image you didn't see before. Reframing your image can actually save a print that may have otherwise not quite worked.

Wax on Wednesdays Fall's End and a Cold Wax Finish !

Happy Wax on Wednesday!
I have been literally obsessed with cyanotype printing this year.
I have mounted many to panel and given them an encaustic finish as I would
with my traditional photographs, but lately I am drawn to a softer cold wax finish as well.

Picture
Cold wax provides a soft satiny luster if buffed out once completely dry. Or it can be left
a velvety matte just like encaustic. Cold wax does not need to be fused or heated in any way
and  dries and cures naturally on the paper. Multiple layers can be added . As a finish , I usually
apply 2-3 thin coats of the medium.

Wax on Wednesdays Waxing Cyanotypes !

Happy Wax on Wednesdays !
I have been working a lot with cyanotypes and various alternative photo processes in the studio lately . Cyanotypes have to be my favorite because once the paper is developed it can become  every shade of my favorite color :)
Picture
This week I compared 5 different papers for the cyanotype process using the same exposer time , wash process etc. I used a mix of traditional watercolor papers and fine art print paper for photographs. My comparison consisted of what I call the 3Ds (Depth of color, Detail, and Durability of the paper ) .
Picture
Encaustic can be added to cyanotypes to create a beautiful finish both mat or high gloss. In this weeks video I will show both looks can add depth to the cyanotype once mounted to panels.
