Happy Wax on Wednesdays !
This week I thought it would be fun to experiment with alcohol inks both on their traditional surfaces and on the Gel Plate with oil sticks. I received quite a few notes and questions from last week's monotype video on using the alcohol inks on top of the oil stick , so I thought this week would be a great opportunity to explore them further :)
Supplies I used this week:
Each week I list the supplies I used in the video here on the blog for you so that you can see and easily find the items used for that week's technique . If you purchase items from the links provided it sometimes generates a few cents in commission which goes right back in to creating videos for you on the youtube channel. It does not raise the cost for you in any way, and is the same link you would find on a regular amazon prime search . Thank you ahead for you support of Wax on Wednesdays in any way ! Also , although the photos here can help you easily find the product . I also recommend that you look at your local art /hobby store to make sure you are getting the lowest price. Sometimes with weekly 40% off coupons basic items can be found at a better price. If you are receiving this blog post via email click on the live link to the post so that you can view the supply links . Note : The Ranger alcohol inks are usually sold in color combinations of 3 as shown below. Usually if you find a single you will be paying a lot more. In the videos I am using almost all of the blues and some greens of both the Jacquard and Ranger lines . The Jacquard exciter pack is listed here as well as a larger set of the Ranger if you are really having a good time with them. Right now it is listed at 79.99 + free shipping which is a pretty good deal for 24 colors. Note: As of this posting the 5x7 Gel Press plate was sold out on Amazon so I have listed the 8x10 here for you .

Happy Wax on Wednesdays !
This week continuing the fun creating some exciting floral prints on the Gel Press Plate with oil sticks. With the small exception of using the brayer to smooth out the background layers, there are no tools involved in creating these fun florals !
I find these prints are very relaxing to create. There is never a mistake on the gel press plate
because you can either roll it back out , or smooth out and re-do with your gloved hand . This freedom gives you the opportunity to play and explore until you are ready to print !
Some of these florals were done completely by hand including shaded back grounds without even the use of the brayer. Finger painting with oil sticks
is one of my favorite things and that goes double for the gel plate! Full video for how I created these florals can be seen on the Wax on Wednesdays extended version on the new Patreon page here : https://www.patreon.com/sharireplogle
The All New Patreon Page has 4 levels of extra content and mini tutorials to choose from . The "Busy Bee " level is the extended Wax on Wednesday content brought to you each week there is a Wax on Wednesdays post. All of the upper levels also receive the Wax on Wednesdays bonus painting content plus whatever that level offers !
I started the page on Patreon because it was a wonderful way to bring extra painting fun to you without the larger expense of a full workshop. The levels go from just 2.99 - 19.99.

Please Note: I used the Enkaustikos 10-18" plate in the video and it fits perfectly on the griddle I use. It is a bit pricey although still cheaper than and R and F heated pallet or the hot box. I have also included several smaller sizes in these plates all the way down to a cute 6x6" plate that you can pop right on the griddle :)
Welcome, and Happy Wax on Wednesdays !
I have been pondering an idea for about a year now and with the times as they are it has been in the forefront of my mind for the last weeks for some very important reasons. I have been working on ideas of bonus and new creative content without having to go to the large expense of investing in a full length workshop. All of my workshops have full forever access, but art can be expensive and purchasing everything on a large supply list , and cost of a full workshop is not always in the budget. My criteria for this weekly and monthly fun content was to :
You can subscribe to 4 different levels starting at only 2.99 a month ! The higher levels have the project content that is offered plus ALL of the content on the previous levels! My hope is to offer much more creating fun at an extremely reasonable price for one heck of a deal ! If you have any questions at any time you know you can always email me at [email protected]. I have created a welcome intro video explaining all of the levels. As of today (Wednesday April 8, 2020) The first and second levels are available as soon as you join !) The 3rd level " Warm Up With Me" will be available Monday The 4th level will be available on the following Monday April 20th Here is the link to the new Patreon page : https://www.patreon.com/user?u=2366202&fan_landing=true
This month I thought it would be fun to play with mono prints in lots of different ways !
Starting off this week with some oil sticks on the Gel Plate. Yes! you can use oil sticks on the gel plates too! Next week I will be showing how to add a saturating layer of clear medium to these fun prints to create a beautiful translucent image. Art store closed ? Encaustic paintings are some of the easiest mediums to recycle
because you can both reactivate and use the wax that is there, or completely cover with new layers and begin fresh . This week I layer over a painting that was headed in a completely different direction . In this week's video I touch on what happens to all of us at one time or another when the "creative flow " just isn't there. Perhaps it is happening to many more of us all at the same time now? A time that is completely unexpected and troubling in so many different ways. We look to creating to lift us up and provide relief , and release , as it should . But what happens when we can't find any flow ? The more stress the less flow is what I have found in my own creating anyhow. When this happens I find that putting pressure on to create a large piece doesn't help matters . There is a time to push and a time to pull. We all react in different ways of course and I can only share what I have found helpful to keep painting, creating, and exploring and finding the joy in both the discovery and the process. I hope you find this week's video helpful if even to know that if this "slow flow, no flow" is happening to you as well you are not alone :)
