Happy Wax on Wednesdays!
This week I wanted to explore using watercolor washes to colorize my photographs before adding clear encaustic medium to them. Sometimes when my images are printed there is just something off in how it came out. Not to let those prints go to waist, I save them in a big folder for experimental use in new techniques I want to try, or live demonstrations. This week I wanted to try out both a mono gradient , using one color fro dark to light on the first image, and a complimentary combination on the second image. Dipping images forces the paper to hold a lot of wax. As the wax cures and hardens this paper may very well crack over time and surely will if it is ever bent somewhere down the line. That means these dipped little exercise are not stable on their own. You can mat and frame them to keep them stable. However one must keep in mind that if they are ever improperly removed from the frame they still may crack once the wax has full cured.
Supplies I used this week:
Each week I list the supplies I used in the video here on the blog for you so that you can see and easily find the items used for that week's technique . NOTE: I used the 8x10 cradled panels with 7/8 " depth but could not locate those this week on Amazon, so instead I am listing the gallery profile 8x10 inch panels which are 1.5 " gallery depth. If you purchase items from the links provided it sometimes generates a few cents in commission which goes right back in to creating videos for you on the youtube channel. It does not raise the cost for you in any way, and is the same link you would find on a regular amazon prime search . Thank you so much! Also , although the photos here can help you easily find the product . I also recommend that you look at your local art /hobby store to make sure you are getting the lowest price. Sometimes with weekly 40% off coupons basic items can be found at a better price. If you are receiving this blog post via email click on the live link to the post so that you can view the supply links .

Happy Wax on Wednesdays !
This week lots of fun recoloring and image with instant coffee, and my favorite Prussian Blue Winsor Newton Gouache! Clear layers of encaustic medium finish off the image and adds both depth and that magical dreamy quality to the image.

Happy Wax on Wednesdays ! This week using the coffee background piece from last week's Wax on Wednesday video to create an assemblage collage with an image transfer. I am using my same technique from the 2015 "Encausticology Collage" online course where I did with the zipper embedding. This time changing it up with a vintage rolled paper boarder instead of the zipper, and adding a photo image transfer in the center.

Happy Wax on Wednesday!
This week is the first of a 3 part post project beginning with a way to create stunningly rich backgrounds for encaustic painting layers with instant coffee!
This is a really enjoyable way of creating rich tones that can be layered and contrasted to create more depth. It acts like a watercolor paint that can be used very concentrated for richer tones or a very light wash.
There is all sorts of fun coffee painting effects going on over on the Patreon channel this month ! This week on the Monday Warmup on the "Mover and Shakers" we did some fun super loose florals with coffee and watercolor. I love the rich caramel tones that coffee can create . I also love that a washed out diluted tone of the coffee brightens an image background like sunlight !

Happy Wax on Wednesdays!
This week I am taking the same 3 photos that were done in last week's Wax on Wednesday video and continuing to explore some techniques with them before I begin work on my large print of this image. I am currently at work on a photo encaustic series entitled "Between Realms" . I invite you to come along on this journey with me as I work on this series :) I found an old hand written poem on The Graphics Fairy that was perfect for this image . Here is the link for that poem : https://thegraphicsfairy.com/halloween-ephemera-night-poem-2/ My exploration this week was to see how portions of this would look in the reflection of the water. The poem was printed on my laser printer. On the first image I was so excited to see how this would look, I forgot to print the image in reverse so that it read correctly on the photo once transferred. UGH , but the other two were printed out correctly and I can still see how the transfer would look on each photo.
