Happy Wax on Wednesdays!
Inkjet photo transfers ? That's right ! I am now on my second laser printer that was purchased for the sole purpose of photo transfers on encaustic. For years I have had one inkjet photo printer for the photos I would mount , and one laser printer for transfers. I had over the years tried different ways of attempting inkjet prints and not had enough success but kept at it just the same. My Epson and Canon photo printers were far superior to the laser printer in photo print quality, and ink quality, having pigment based inks that were tested to be more archival with each new advance in technology they have come up with over the last decade . There had to be a way it could work.
I began with an already painted piece I did on the Patreon channel a couple of weeks ago . I loved
the colors for to use as a background for the photo. I used a copyright free image (who doesn't love a good princess castle :)
Supplies I used this week:
Each week I list the supplies I used in the video here on the blog for you so that you can see and easily find the items used for that week's technique . If you purchase items from the links provided it sometimes generates a few cents in commission which goes right back in to creating videos for you on the youtube channel. It does not raise the cost for you in any way, and is the same link you would find on a regular amazon prime search . Thank you ahead for you support of Wax on Wednesdays in any way ! Also , although the photos here can help you easily find the product . I also recommend that you look at your local art /hobby store to make sure you are getting the lowest price. Sometimes with weekly 40% off coupons basic items can be found at a better price. If you are receiving this blog post via email click on the live link to the post so that you can view the supply links . I have also listed both of my printers I am currently using for photo printing. The Epson, although a bit of a pricey investment, has come down considerably from its $1295.00 price when it was introduced in 2015 which probably means a new edition is on the horizon .
I created the Patreon channel during a time when live workshops just are not possible for us . Large online workshops
although fun , can be a larger investment and consume large amounts of time . I have designed the Patreon channel to work like mini workshops for you all for the price of a cup of coffee each week . You can watch, play , create, and refer back and replay the videos and posts for as long as you subscribe to the channel. The channel is full of fresh video instruction and new content and creative fun each week, and you can customize your participation level at any time even after you have subscribed. You can also subscribe and unsubscribe at any time. Right now there is a Bonus All New Photo Encaustic workshop on the Patreon channel for subscribers!( Busy Bee level and above ) . This is week 2 where there is a full step by step instruction and helpful tips on the inkjet transfers. The workshop will run 5 weeks in total diving into multiple facets of the fascinating world of photo encaustic. The workshop is also available to replay and refer to for subscribers. You can check out the Patreon channel here : https://www.patreon.com/sharireplogle Happy Creating !

Happy Wax on Wednesdays !
Recently I began a new photo encaustic series. The idea for the series was to use the same image for each painting using different aspects of the image during printing, and also using the photo encaustic process to build layers and create a completely different narrative for each piece. This week on Wax on Wednesdays on Youtube I am showing an easy stress free way of mounting your images safely to the cradle board so that you can dive in and begin adding your visual story through encaustic. Would you like to join me for this entire photo encaustic journey ? As a bonus workshop for my Patreon members, for the next 4 weeks I am showing 4 of these paintings through the entire process start to finish as a bonus photo encaustic workshop! You can sign up to be a member of my Patreon channel at any time, and have access to all of the videos for the level you subscribed to for as long as you choose to subscribe. You can also raise or drop your level of member ship any time. For instance if you are a "Busy Bee "(just 4.99!) level member you receive all of the bonus Wax on Wednesday content (including this photo encaustic workshop! ) . But let's say you see a couple of projects you like in the "Mover and Shaker" level (11.99) that month . You can move up for that month and enjoy all of the video content available on Monday Warmups, and if you would like to you can then change your membership to go back to being a "Busy Bee" the very next month :) All of the levels are a lot of weekly and monthly content for much, much , less than the price of a full workshop!

This week I wanted to take the methods used last week on the Hanshi paper transfers , and apply it to the board. I had some trees that I had been wanting to create on contrasting back grounds and thought this would be a great opportunity to explore with the alcohol ink/oil stick combination on board.

Happy Wax on Wednesdays!
This week was a "FEEP" Day ( Fun Experimental Explorative Paint Day:) I had so much fun with the alcohol inks and the oil sticks , I wanted to try them on my favorite printing paper, the Hanshi Rice papers. This paper feels so incredible when it is dipped in encaustic it is definitely a match made in Heaven . I knew that I wanted to add delicate stenciled patterns to these , but how to get it all to work together the way that I envisioned it . The oil paint producing the subtle faded aged effect , the alcohol ink providing a dash of bolder brighter color that is hard to achieve using oil stick alone on the plate, and a nice representation of the stencil patterns when both mediums are combined. Well this turned into more of a FEEP Week :) but I eventually fell into a rhythm I was pleased with in these prints . It is easy to get carried away when printing on a paper that is so delicious and it was hard to wait until I had completed my stack to get these over and dip them in the encaustic !

Note : The Ranger alcohol inks are usually sold in color combinations of 3 as shown below. Usually if you find a single you will be paying a lot more. In the videos I am using almost all of the blues and some greens of both the Jacquard and Ranger lines . The Jacquard exciter pack is listed here as well as a larger set of the Ranger if you are really having a good time with them. Right now it is listed at 79.99 + free shipping which is a pretty good deal for 24 colors. Note: As of this posting the 5x7 Gel Press plate was sold out on Amazon so I have listed the 8x10 here for you .
I also used 3 Stencil Girl Product Stencils :
