Super fun way to add a lasting finish to a water color painting ? Encaustic of course !
The watercolor will need to be mounted permanently to a rigid surface like a wood cradle board. This week's video shows exactly how to mount and finish a water color painting with a beautiful dreamy encaustic finish. This way of mounting is archival and made to last. I used Arches water color paper , wood cradle board, PVA archival bookbinder's glue , and beautiful beeswax and damar resin . If you would like much more in depth tutorials on encaustic and watercolor + an entire library of encaustic techniques to explore ," Encausticology 101 " online workshop is available to jump in 24/7 with lifetime access ! Please Note: This is the first blog post for the web site , however there are YEARS of fun Wax on Wednesdays posts on playswithpaper.blogspot.com .
New Beginnings. Feelings of good, strange , excitement . Excited for new opportunities, new adventures, putting away the sad but sometimes it creeps in . So begins empty nest syndrome :) The first new adventure is starting this blog here on the sharireplogle.com site. I have posted artistic adventures on blog posts on Playswithpaper.blogspot.com since 2006 WOW ! Now continuing the adventure here on sharireplogle.com, hopefully everything will be all easier to find on one website :) This week on Wax on Wednesdays, some fun bold new textures with dry wall texture spray to really amp it up in this landscape ! I am ALWAYS on the hunt for great textures to add in encaustic . Hardware store , dollar store, grocery store :) . I try to envision it all underneath the wax to see if it will be benificial in adding cool textures . (My family is used to it ) There are some rules, and criteria these items have to meet in order for it to be archival , but I get really excited when I believe something is going to play well with the encaustic wax! If you are super excited about building textures and exploring more there is a library of encaustic workshops available 24/7 here on the site. If you enjoyed the techniques in this week's Wax on Wednesdays video I recommend Encausticology 101 Online Workshop for hours of step by step encaustic techniques !
